Enhance client relationships through better sharing and collaboration.

In April 2010 Bradford & Barthel completed the implementation and successful firm-wide roll-out of its Google Apps cloud-hosted collaboration platform. The Google Apps for Business strategy and implementation earned the firm two ILTA 2010 Distinguished Peer Awards and led to a major culture shift resulting in increased knowledge sharing, communication and collaboration within the firm and with firm clients.

"We’ve seen improved efficiency across our departments, areas of practice, and externally with our clients."

Bradford & Barthel had a need to find more cost effective, collaborative, flexible and efficient options for communicating and sharing files and information trapped in disparate systems, in documents on desktops, and in a multitude of electronic communications. After weighing the risk management aspects of going to a software-as-a-service or cloud model versus the additional infrastructure and licensing considerations of a standard desktop upgrade, the firm's senior management team opted to go the hosted route.

Since Bradford & Barthel migrated to Google Apps for Business collaboration has been made much easier and more efficient. Their solicitors have found Google Sites, Google Docs, and shared Google calendars to be intuitive and flexible. With Google Apps, constant innovation comes with the package and they are pleased by how many new features were introduced in the first year and a half alone: priority inbox, offline access and page-level permissions in Google Sites, to name a few.

As part of Bradford & Barthel competitive strategy moving forward, their goal is to use the video features of Google Hangouts and social tools of Google Plus to enhance collaboration both internally and with their clients. Google Apps has allowed Bradford & Barthel to adapt and succeed in the digital age as they move towards the year 2020.  They've already seen a lot of productivity improvements and stronger relationships with their clients, and their firm’s approach to business is evolving as they continue to realise the benefits of technology in the legal industry.

"We feel confident that our data and the data of our clients is much safer than if we hosted it on premise ourselves."

So lets see some examples of how Bradford & Barthel uses Google Apps:
Google Drive for Business
They use Google Sites with Google Drive as their intranet and portals with clients. As a result of this improved communication, they've seen improved efficiency across all departments, areas of practice, and externally with their clients. Teams are collaborating directly with clients when developing new business and during trials and depositions.

Google Apps Vault
Increasingly, litigation is all about the documents you have and the documents you don't have. Bradford & Barthel use Google Apps Vault with Google Drive to allows them to easily have visibility into all the relevant documents that might be in a case, pull them together, assess the case quickly, figure out how they should approach it, and be able to respond to the demands from the other side.

As a law firm handling confidential information for their clients, Bradford & Barthel takes security extremely seriously. They're responsible for private information on individuals and companies and the best security option for them was Google Apps. Google has many security features - SAS70 Type II certification and two step authentication included - that allow them to feel confident their data and the data of their clients is much safer than if they hosted it on premise.
